Sealants are highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth Sealants are a simple procedure in which a clear or tooth-colored acrylic “coating” is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves where decay is most likely to start. This technique is usually done on permanent molars as soon as they have erupted enough to be sealed. On occasion, primary molars have grooves deep enough to require sealing as well. At less than half the cost of a conventional filling, without any anesthetic or drilling, sealants are one of the most important preventive tools we use at Woodbury Dental Center, and many insurance plans cover sealants at 100%!
